Brits go GaGa

A recent poll showed Ant and Dec are the nations favourite presenters of the Brit Awards and if you conducted another tomorrow the result would be the same. I am a big Peter Kay fan but he seemed out of place at the Brits, uncomfortable, relying on references to old has been pop stars. Ironically it was one of those 'Old Rockers' that instigated one of Kay's rare moments of magic.

As it was the awards 30Th birthday, there were a few additional statues up for grabs this time round, including best performance at the Brits which was won by the Spice girls, only 2 were there thank God, even better they didn't sing again.

The next vocally challenged band to be honoured for best album in the awards history were Oasis for 'What's the story morning glory'. Again only one of the 4 could make it, Noel probably had better things to do and who were the other 2 anyway. Well Liam thanked those 2, I forget who they are again, Liam however deliberately forgot to mention his Brother Noel, yes, Noel, the guy that wrote all the words and music for his Brother to completely murder as soon as he got a mic in his hand. I think he was confused tonight as he had the award in one hand and a mic in the other decided he didn't want either and threw them both off stage towards the crowd. Cue Peter Kay with the finest description I have ever heard for Gallagher, "Knobhead" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkPDNoO8ZJU

It was left to a real star from across the pond to bring some much needed class to the Earls Court stage in the guise of 'Lacy' GaGa. She started with a tribute to Alexander McQueen, the fashion icon who tragically took his own life last week, I'm sure had he have seen what she was wearing he would of approved. she stole the show with her performance, I didn't necessarily like the numbers she sang as much as the one she wore. She introduced us to a new instrument on stage, it was kind of her own little sound effects collection in the shape of a guitar with a piano attached, there was also a statue accompanying her surrounded by a piano, quite bizarre, extremely GaGa. Her acceptance speeches for Best International breakthrough act, Best International album and Best International female artist were probably the most sincere of the night also. She is winning everything, Kay said "She didn't win Best Male but it was close". He added, "She is to fashion what Michael Jackson's doctor is to prescriptions". She actually reminded me of a female Elton John, she can be as big I believe. http://www.celebrity-mania.com/news/view/00011847.html

Shirley Bassey who won Best British female artist in 1977 presented this years award to Lily Allen. She had decided to wear a bright orange wig so the cameras couldn't find her in the crowd capturing her expected disappointment at not winning AGAIN. A few well chosen Lily Allen lyrics later and almost forgetting her award it was off to 'Have a drink' to celebrate finally winning something.

After picking up Best International Male, Jayzee dueted with Alicia keys and it was absolutely fantastic as they performed their excellent hit Empire state of mind. Best British album winner Florence and the machine dueted without the same effect, but then Dizzy Rascal is no Jayzee is he now. I was dizzy with disbelief when he picked up Best British Male solo artist beating Calvin Harris, Mika, Paulo Nutini and Robbie Williams, any of those deserve the award more. The only other bigger surprise was Joe McEledry's nomination for Best British single, or were they referring to the fact he has no girlfriend/Boyfriend?

There was lots of talk about whether or not Cheryl Cole would wear gloves so she could hide the fact whether or not she was wearing her wedding ring after revelations of yet more infidelities by her husband Ashley, how embarrassing for her to see pictures of those awful underpants he wears splashed across national newspapers. If you are still with him I know what he needs for Christmas. And Ashley, i have 2 suggestions of gifts for Cheryl, singing, or miming lessons. http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00030753.html That is not video delay you will see on Cheryls performance, she really is that bad.(Photo) You can almost see her ring.
Faux pas's of the night went to lead singer of Kasabian who fell over in his eagerness to collect Best British band, Jonathan Ross dressed as a teenager and an under par performance from Peter Kay capped off by embarrassingly comparing JLS to a all black male Bucks Fizz.

All in all it was a pretty low key event with few highlights, with the exception of Lady GaGa, Jayzee, Florence and the machine which unfortunately included Dizzy Rascals awful interference. The truly outstanding performance of the evening was by Robbie Williams who fittingly won the 'Outstanding contribution award', taking his total number of Brits to a staggering 15.
He sang hits spanning 20 years which included a Take That song that wasn't witnessed by his former band mates as they chose to boycott the ceremony. This was Robbie's night and he was the real entertainer at the Brits 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc6mQQbKlUE
