Michael Jackson R.I.P.

People are already likening the death of Jacko to JFK and Princess Diana, apparently we will again remember exactly what we were doing when we heard the news. I was actually sleeping having just fell asleep after hearing the news of Farrah Fawcett Majors' painful and slow drawn out death from cancer. My phone message receieved alert went off around 10-45 on the 25th of June, it contained just 4 words, 'Michael Jackon is dead'.

I am pleased it didn't contain the name of any of my close friends or relatives and here I think lays the main point of this article, none of us knew him, yes most of the world liked his music, fewer liked the person, in fact did anyone really know him? I suspect even the king of pop himself never knew who Michael Jackson was. From the fuzzy haired little black 5 year old sensation bouncing around with his brothers to the song 'Rockin Robin, Tweet, twidelly dee' (Michael Jackson even back then was telling people to tweet tweet tweet, well ahead of his time that guy) to the old deformed white man of 50, he was never out of the news for more reasons than I think is fair to comment on as I don't know anything about his personal life, although he did live most of his private life in public.

He was a genius, maybe one of the greatest dancers we have ever seen, certainly ground breaking, innovative and original, it's always hard to be the first at something, having said that, many have tried to copy him and have been inspired by him. He wrote some great songs, anthems that will stay in our memories and music collections for years to come. But here is where my appreciation of the undoubted king since the death of Elvis ends. The 3 letters R.I.P. actually do mean Rest in peace, so why don't we let him.

Everyone will jump on the one man band wagon, I was on twitter and all everyone was talking about was Michael Jackson, I put This morning on and Lionel Blair was 'Live on the phone', he never met him, didn't know anything about him, he did say his sister or someone that knew his sister once saw him live, unfortunately millions saw him dead last night as the helicopter camera witnessed yet another spectacle in a white vehicle. But Mr Blair praised his dancing, how interesting for telling us what we already knew, a typical example of every programme looking to get in on the act. I just wanted to get away from Jacko mania so I switched over to Wimbledon and couldn't believe it when I saw reporters interviewing the crowd about Michael Jackson, two girls even complaining they had bought tickets to one of his 50 tour dates. Now come on, did any of you that bought tickets actually believe he would show up? If you saw his press conference it was quite obvious that the guy couldn't even make it to the stage without the assistance of an electric disabled vehicle, did you really expect to see him spinning and moon walking thrusting his codpiece all over the O2 stage?

Once again the nation, the world is mourning, events like this reiterate how mortal we all are, but I sincerely hope that people don't waste money by laying flowers at various places and instead use the money to donate to charities and help prevent and cure the diseases which kill not only people like Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson but also take our real loved ones from us every day.
