Murray in a hurry

I am not a fan of tennis, but I am a fan of Wimbledon. Us 'British' certainly know how to put on a tournament in any sport. Wembley is the world home of football, The Crucible IS Snooker and Wimbledon is the one everyone wants to win.

The courts are first class, the BBC coverage exemplary including the commentator McEnroe, what a class act he is, loves his tennis and can and does talk and talk about it with such knowledge. It seems this year 'We' actually have a serious chance at having a 'British' champion. I am not pretending to know I know the first thing about the game, my expertise ends at knowing which end of the 'Bat' to hold, but I do know a little about people, their temperament and will to win and Andy Murray has the lot in bucket loads. He is arguably the fittest player on the circuit, has every shot in the book so McEnroe informs us and yes I am serious.

Not since Tim Henman reached the semi finals in 2002 have we had anything to cheer about at Wimbledon, but honestly, as an Englishman do I really deserve to share in his achievements anymore than we did back when Greg Rudzetski was falsely getting our hopes up or when Lennox Lewis won the world heavyweight boxing championship.

I must admit it feels better to be talking about something positive other than MP's expenses, voting/fighting in Iran or Michael Jackson. 'til Friday at least. Can he go all the way? Roddick's big serve will be hard to break and the annoying Australian contingent in the crowd will help Leyton Hewitt should he be Murray's semi final opponent. Yes I am getting into tennis as you can probably tell, but I wont be watching the final should it be Federer against any other player than our newly adopted Brit.

It really is a shame with our great history and contribution to the game for so many years that the all England tennis association still can't find a true English talent as we continue to support anyone who willingly or unwillingly flys the 'Union Jack'.
