Christmas TV

What has happened to all the great TV shows we used to get at Christmas time? The simple answer is they just keep serving up the same stuff year after year to accompany the traditional dinner, smells sprouting from Grandmas bottom and a top of the pops number 1 from er the 90's.

There were a few highlights even if there were resemblances to another kind of Crinkley bottom apart from your grandmas, I speak of course about 'The Ant and Dec Christmas show'. I think if Noel Edmonds was watching he would of drowned out the sound of Granny's bum rumbles with cries of 'HEY I INVENTED THAT SHOW YEARS AGO'.

I loved the Big fat quiz of 2009 with Jimmy Carr and Eastenders was the best Christmas episode I can remember. Who did kill Archie Mitchell? An easier question would be who didn't want to. I wish it had of been me. If Eastenders is supposed to be a reflection of true Eastenders lives I don't think Archie would have lasted 10 minutes, I do miss the Krays. Jim Branning has by far the best job in British soaps, he must turn up every week to collect his script for the week wondering how many 'Yeahs' he has to learn.

The real lowlight of the bunch of trash received by my dish this year has to be the , absolutely, abominable, atrocious, horrendous, horrific and dire 'All star impression show' on ITV1. Even Iain Lee posted on twitter 'Apologies to anyone who watched the All star impression show. Sadly it's not the worst thing I've ever done, doesn't that say something'. Yes Iain it speaks volumes. I have seen you on TV before but haven't listened to your latest attempt to entertain on Absolute radio Monday to Thursday from 11pm til 1am, that also says something, you can't be very good at that either. You can read his tweet by following @iainlee

Unfortunately the only truly great shows on tv this Christmas were the same ones which made us laugh as long ago as 30 years. There is talent in Britain I just wish the tv companies would utilize it, stick their hands in their pockets and make some proper tv Christmas spectaculars, or do we have to buy them all on DVD?

TV licence, satellite fees, please tell me what we pay for?

  1. You only have yourself to blame. If you are looking for quality TV, do not ever, ever switch on ITV. BBC had some class acts this year. Victoria Wood was, as ever, sharply written and hilarious. The Gruffalo was a gentle, beautifully animated classic for kids of all ages and The Royle Family had us in tears of laughter as Jim displayed his skidmarked underpants on holiday in a caravan in Wales where there was, horror of horrors, NO CHIP PAN! David Tennant's penultimate Doctor Who episode was a bit underwhelming but apart from that, the BBC shows I watched were excellent.
